Interclub is the local track and field competition in Hobart. It's run by the overarching body known as Athletics South (AS). The OVA Southern Saints are one of the member clubs of AS. Being an OVA member enables you to compete at Interclub.
Interclub is generally held each Saturday morning from October until March, at the Domain Athletics Centre. Each program of events is different, but starts usually at 1:00pm.
You can view the latest calendar of events from Athletics South by clicking here. Scroll down beyond the calendar to view the specific events on each program.
You do need to enter each event you want to compete in on each day, a minimum of 30min before the listed event start time.
To enter for each event there are a number of tables containing clip boards and entry forms, located in between the main grandstand building an the administration building.
Entering an event generally requires you to list your club, name and recent personal best time so that everyone can be graded into an appropriate heat or event.
Interclub generally runs from 1:30pm until 4:30pm with events scheduled in between. We recommend the absolute minimum time to arrive to the Domain Athletics Centre is 40min before your first event. This meets the minimum 30min deadline to enter, and gives you time to spare.
However, many members do like to perform a warm up - or enjoy the social aspects of the local event prior to competing - so often arrive an hour or two earlier.
You can - Athletics South and OVA offer a 'come and try' period of two weeks, where you can pay $10.00 (to cover insurance etc.) and compete at interclub unregistered to see if it's for you.
This option is only available to new members however who haven't been previously affiliated with a club for a while.
One of the benefits of senior athletics, unlike junior competitions, is that you aren't required to be there for the full day. Many members have work commitments, or want to enjoy the summer weather.
If your event isn't until later on in the program, as long as you've entered no later than 30min before - then you don't have to be there until then.
1. Are you registered with the OVA Southern Saints?
If not, we invite you to Join OVA for the current season.
2. Do you have an OVA competition singlet or crop top?
This is the major item required to compete, which you can arrange to purchase by contacting the club. or via our online store.
3. Have you checked out the calendar and timetable to see when events start and what events are offered this week?
If not, you can check the latest version out by clicking here.
4. Make sure you arrive no less than 40min before your first event starts.
This is so you have enough time to enter, but you may want to arrive earlier if you wish to warm up too.
5. Enter your event.
To enter your event, head to the Administration Building (smaller building off to the side of the main grandstand) and grab an entry form.
Fill in the required information such as name, which events you want to do and any relevant times/distances for these events. Hand this back into the friendly volunteers in administration.
6. Warm up and go to your event start location at least 10-minutes early
The event start location may be the 400m start, the jump pits or the throws area (where you can do some practice jumps and throws). If you're not sure where to go, don't hesitate to ask one of your fellow OVA members - we're always happy to help.
7. Have a great time, and achieve those goals!
There will be event officials around the place who are also great at helping out - so don't worry if you're not sure what to do.
8. Check your results
The team at Athletics South do an amazing job, and usually have results out within 24hrs of competition. You can check these under the results tab by clicking here.
That's great - we'd love to hear it and be able to help! Feel free to send us a message via our contact page, or even get in touch via social media through our Facebook page.
